China’s Foreign Minister has called on the United States, Russia, Japan and South Korea to discuss North Koreas space program experiment which involved the firing of along range rocket.

Minister Yang Jiechi says all must look at the big picture and avoid the risk of exacerbating the situation. He also says that China believes talks can resolve the issues and hopes that related parties can maintain peace and stability in the region.

The U.S. has called the rocket launch a violation of U.N. resolutions and is saying the move only increases North Koreas isolation, urging the country to refrain from further “provocative actions.”

China is a major economic partner of North Korea.

Beijing has refused to comment openly¬† in contrast to its 2006 denouncement of North Korea’s nuclear testing as “brazen”.

Beijing  is a permanent member of the U.N security Council and has the power to veto proposed resolutions.
