800 more Ugandan troops are being deployed to assist the African Union (AU) peacekeeping force in Somalia.

Troops are being sent as an attempt to fulfill the Ugandan governments promise to fill the gap left by Ethiopian troops, after they withdrew in December.

The current peacekeeping force in Somalia is made up of 3,500 troops from both Uganda and Burundi.

Uganda has deployed approximately1, 800 troops to Somalia since March 2007.
