The Maldives vow to become the first carbon neutral country. President Mohamed Nasheed says that climate change threatens all nations and that countries must pull together to de-carbonize the world economy.

The state owned electricity company is being privatized.

The ten year plan is said to cost $1.1 billion and require 155 wind turbines, and half a square kilometer of solar panels.

The Maldives economy is based mostly on fishing and tourism at a worth of approximately $800 million a year. The island has a population of 350,000 people.
