Global Campaign to Stop Educational Rape and Violence Epidemic

The global partnership PLAN is launching a global campaign called Learn without fear, to help combat the fact that approximately a million children face violence in school everyday.  According to a study of Ecuadorian female adolescent victims of sexual violence conducted by CLADEM, more than a third of the girls named teachers as perpetrators. Thailand’s Ministry of Education says that every week at least one teacher sexually abuses a student, male or female. Many countries do not have explicit laws that prohibit sexual violence against children/students. In an effort to combat violence against children in schools the Learn Without Fear Campaign says it hopes to:  persuade governments to outlaw/enforce laws against all forms of violence against children, work with school leaders to promote alternatives to corporal punishment disciplinary methods, and create an worldwide momentum for change by engaging members of the international community to join the campaign.
